Some people say humans choose their pets, but if you ask me, I chose my human the exact moment our worlds collided. My name is Lullu, and I have been officially selected as the Pet of the Month! While I’m incredibly proud of this title, the true prize of my life isn’t a badge or a ribbon—it’s the deep, unbreakable bond I share with my favorite human, Snovia.
I am the undisputed queen of our household—the only feline who rules her heart. While Snovia has a soft spot for the world and loves feeding the stray cats around our building and on the streets, I am the only one who gets to call her “Mama.”
A Colorful Coat and an Unpredictable Attitude
If I do say so myself, I am a stunningly beautiful Calico cat. My coat is a gorgeous canvas of orange, black, and white patches.
Did you know? Calico isn’t actually a breed, but a color pattern, and because of some fascinating genetics, almost all Calico cats are female! In many cultures, we are considered good luck charms—and honestly, looking at how much Mama adores me, I’d say that’s absolutely true.
Of course, with great beauty comes a lot of personality. I am known to have some spectacular, random mood swings. One minute I want all the love in the world, and the next, I want to be left entirely alone in my royal solitude. I can get quite cranky, but that’s the beauty of Mama—she loves every single side of me, tantrums and all. She knows my spicy “Cali-tude” just makes the sweet moments even sweeter.
Our Morning Ritual and the Food Box Sit-In
Our days don’t begin with the harsh ring of an alarm clock; they start with a gentle symphony of purrs. Every single morning, without fail, the very moment Snovia’s eyes flutter open, I am there, stepping lightly onto her chest for our sacred fifteen minutes of morning cuddles.
Only after I am thoroughly fueled by her affection do we move on to my next favorite activity: breakfast. Mama and I have invented our own dialect for this. When hunger strikes, I don’t just meow aimlessly. I march right up to my food box, point at it with a deliberate stare, and then promptly plant my entire body right on top of it.
Just the other day, I fell asleep while sitting on the box in deep protest. Mama found me hours later, sound asleep, completely draped over the kibble container like a colorful little rug, snoring softly. She burst out laughing, woke me up, and served my late lunch. It’s these quirky little inside jokes that make our days so bright.
Sibling Rivalry and Waiting for Papa
Life at home is full of entertaining dynamics. I share Mama with her human daughter, Megan, and let’s just say we have a classic case of sibling rivalry! We constantly compete for Mama’s attention and love to bicker over who gets the best spot on the couch or the biggest share of affection. It’s a chaotic, fun sisterhood, but deep down, we are family.
While Mama is my ultimate anchor, there is another very important piece to my heart: Papa. He often goes away on long work tours, and the house feels a little emptier when he’s gone. During those times, I join the family watch-party, waiting by the door and listening for the specific sound of his footsteps. The moment he returns, my little heart bursts with joy, and the family is finally whole again.
Beyond the Food Bowl: A Guide to Building a Deep, Fun Bond with Your Pet
For all the pet parents reading this who want to experience this level of magic with their own fur-babies, here is a little advice from a cat who knows best:
Embrace the Mood Swings: We pets have complex emotions, just like humans! Don’t take our cranky days personally. When you love your pet through their sassy moods and their sweet ones, it builds an unshakeable foundation of trust.
Create Sacred Rituals: Whether it’s a morning cuddle session like ours or a specific routine when you wake up, consistency creates a deep sense of safety and belonging.
Lean into Their Quirks: Notice the funny things your pet does—like falling asleep on top of their food. When you acknowledge and laugh at their eccentricities instead of ignoring them, it turns daily routine into a joyful, interactive relationship.
Balance the Family Dynamic: If you have a multi-species household (or a human child and a fur-child like Megan and me!), embrace the gentle rivalries. Give everyone their dedicated one-on-one time so no one feels left out of the love circle.
A pet isn’t just an animal sharing your living space; we are family members who feel every emotion deeply. All it takes is a little patience, a lot of cuddles, and an open heart to build a bond that lasts a lifetime.
